Hannibal, MO —

The grass infield at Veterans Elementary is the first major project the Booster Club has completed.  The Booster Club has given money to the Cross Country team to help in the purchasing of new warm ups and middle school uniforms, given a donation to the fieldturf installation at Porter Stadium, purchased a paint kit for the cheerleaders to make signs for promoting upcoming athletic events, and donated money for the purchase of backstroke flags for use at the YMCA for the Hannibal swim teams.
The Booster Club purchases the letters that all athletes are awarded at their sports banquets at the end of the season.  Also purchased are the bars and emblems depicting the sports that athletes letter in.  Booster Club has several other projects on the agenda to be completed this year. The goal is for every sport in the Hannibal School System to benefit.
Fund-raising continues this year and there are several events coming up this week.  Every Friday that Hannibal hosts a varsity football game, a tailgate barbeque is held in the parking lot near Korf Gym from 5:15 p.m. to about 7 p.m.  Booster Club secretary Mary Ann St Clair believes this will become a larger event each week and hopes it continues to grow each year.
“With this week being homecoming, we hope to bring a big crowd to the barbeque. Our goal is for everyone to realize that Booster Club is going to be here every home game and people will get in the habit of coming to the game to have dinner, socialize with friends then attend the game.  Meals can be taken to go, also.  We intend to be here every game year after year like other schools have done and that visiting team fans will attend also.  Marshall’s Booster Club has been doing a barbeque for nearly 20 years and the entire community and visitors plan on it being there.”
Saturday, Oct. 4, will be a big fund-raising day.  Tom Boland Ford is bringing a national promotion called “Drive for Your School” to the parking lot in front of the middle school.  Anyone over the age of 18 can come to the front parking lot of the middle school, bring their driver’s license, sign a waiver, then drive a Ford vehicle and Ford will donate up to $6000 to the Booster Club (only one person per family). This event will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Schwans’ foods will also be present with two loaded trucks of Schwans’ products with a percentage of the proceeds going to Booster Club.  The trucks will be there from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Anyone can attend these events with the profits going to help student-athletes.
“Ultimately the goal is to get projects completed to improve facilities for the kids in Hannibal, St Clair said. “The reality is that we need to raise funds to make these projects happen.  We are selling Booster Club memberships at various events and anyone can join whether they have kids participating currently or not. Businesses have been supportive by purchasing “Push/Pull” stickers for the doors of their business and many individuals and families have joined.”
