Pike and Ralls County Soil and Water Conservation Districts hosted an informational workshop for area contractors at Frankford First Christian Church Wednesday Feb. 16. The focus was to update contractors of new requirements and safety needed when completing projects on farms. The meeting began following breakfast that was prepared by Pike and Ralls NRCS/SWCD staff. Gary Noel, district conservationist, welcomed the group. Reese Coulter, an NRCS engineer, discussed changes in NRCS standards and specifications for various practices. Lucas Brass, resource conservationist, gave a trench safety presentation. Mike Pugh and Tim Zedialis, NRCS soil conservation technicians, talked about design and survey of terraces and waterways. Gary Noel talked about USDA wetland policies. Michael Green, representing British Petroleum, and Bill Dexheimer, representing Missouri One Call, stressed the importance of notifying Missouri One Call before doing any construction that requires soil movement below the surface. The next schedule workshop for area landowners is the Burn Workshop, at 9 a.m. March 5 at the American Legion Hall in Louisiana. Lunch will be furnished by MDC.
