A man accused of arson and murder told police a cigarette may have started the Oct. 25 fire that killed three people.

HPD OK’d to upgrade computers

Earlier this year the Hannibal Police Department took its new squad cars out onto the city’s streets. In the near future the HPD will be navigating the cyber highway with a new computer system. During Tuesday night’s meeting of the Hannibal City Council, Chief Lyndell Davis was given permission to replace its two main servers, upgrade software and operating systems, and replace older personal computer units.

The wait for six candidates seeking the vacant Fourth Ward seat on the Hannibal City Council ended Tuesday night. When the votes were tallied, Barry Louderman was chosen on a unanimous vote of the council.

Could Kaat be coming to Hannibal?

While team officials with the Hannibal Cavemen weren’t commenting publicly Monday afternoon, the New York Daily News reported in its Saturday edition that former major league hurler Jim Kaat may be interested in coming to Hannibal next summer to work with Hannibal Cavemen pitchers.

Moving day is approaching for Mark Sanders and Corri Tolivar of the Hannibal Cavemen. In the near future they will be relocating the baseball team’s business office from its current location on North Main Street to the team’s fieldhouse at Clemens Field.
