Hannibal, MO —
Food residue inside a self-cleaning oven prompted a run by units of the Hannibal Fire Department to a residence in the 4200 block of West Ely Road Tuesday morning.
The sounding of fire alarms and a smell of smoke inside the residence prompted a call to Marion County 911, which dispatched firefighters at 8:40 a.m.
Upon arriving, firefighters found no visible smoke or flames inside the residence. It was determined that the oven had been set to self-clean. It was also noted there was food residue inside the appliance. Firefighters speculated that is what caused the smell and odor that caused the fire alarms to activate.
Firefighters remained on the scene for a time to help ventilate the home.
