Hannibal, MO —

Participants in this year’s National Tom Sawyer Day’s Parade must pre-register by July 1, according to Jackie Dryden, representing the Hannibal Jaycees.
“We are addressing some concerns that was brought to us at meetings and also by the Hannibal Police Department,” she said.
Parade participants will be given a sign with a number that must be displayed on the floats. This number will be how a float or entry is judged. The top three floats will be given a plaque or trophy.
Our theme this year is “Star Spangled Spectacular.”
The entry fee this year has raised to $10 per float/entry to cover the of the trophies. Entries can either be mailed to the address below, or e-mailed to jackieRdryden@hotmail.com.
This year the HPD will try to eliminate parking on Broadway from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Also, throwing candy or objects from the floats will not be allowed. If there are complaints that things are being thrown, participants may be denied entry into the following years’ parade. To pass out candy, parade participants should plan to walk beside their float and hand out the candy.
The drivers of motorcycles and A.T.V.’s must be accompanied by an adult. They must handle the vehicles with respect to everyone around them. Reving of the engines to speed for a few feet and slamming on the brakes, wheelies, and any other inappropiate driving will not be tolerated.
Entries may be mailed with a $10 check or money order to: Hannibal Jaycees, c/o Jackie Dryden, P.O. Box 484, Hannibal, MO 63401
