Crime rate down again in Illinois

Springfield, IL —

The Land of Lincoln was a bit safer last year than in 2006.
Illinois State Police report crime fell by more than 3 percent statewide in 2007, continuing a 13-year slide.
Most West-Central Illinois counties also saw a drop. Crime was down 2.6 percent in Pike County, 9.2 percent in Adams County and 26.8 percent in Scott County.
Brown County saw the biggest drop at 32.6 percent. Calhoun County reported a 22 percent increase in crime.
Around the state, there were 456,000 serious crimes in 2007, a 3.1 percent drop.
