According to the Centers for Disease Control, an average of five to 20 percent of the U.S. population gets the flu per year and more than 200,000 people are hospitalized from flu complications. Vaccination can prevent the flu.
Blessing Physician Services will host flu vaccine clinics each Tuesday and Friday from Oct. 21 through Nov. 21 in the Suite 106 of the Blessing Health Center, 927 Broadway.
Flu vaccines will be available from noon to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays and from 8 a.m. to noon on Fridays. No appointment is necessary.
While flu outbreaks can happen as early as October, most flu activity peaks in January or later.
The CDC recommends that certain people get vaccinated each year. They are either people who are at high risk of having serious flu complications or people who live with or care for those at high risk for serious complications. BPS offers flu vaccines to anyone over age 9.
The cost of the vaccine is $25, which is payable with cash or by check. Medicare only will be billed.
Blessing Physician Services is a multi-specialty practice group consisting of 40 physicians in 14 specialties who serve residents of western Illinois, northeast Missouri and southeast Iowa. Primary care and specialty providers are taking new patients and participate in most area health insurance networks.
