River watch: Mississippi in retreat

A large log had taken up residence along the Hannibal riverfront on Wednesday. The river has begun dropping in Hannibal. While still over 20 feet, the river had receded 0.05 of a foot.

The Mississippi River has begun its retreat from the riverfronts in Hannibal, Saverton and Louisiana.
As of 1 p.m., the river stage in Hannibal was 20.03 feet, which represents a drop of 0.05 of a foot. In Saverton (19.34 feet) the river is 0.04 of a foot lower than on Tuesday at the same time while in Louisiana (19.14) it has dipped 0.01 of a foot.
In Clarksville the river was still climbing. The 29.44 river stage represented a 0.02 of a foot rise in 24 hours.
The forecast in Hannibal is for the river to hold about steady through Saturday before beginning a steady drop next week.
Moderate flood stage in Hannibal is 18 feet.
