Quincy Community Theatre has scheduled auditions for a story about a father and his son, “Big Fish: The Musical.”

Auditions will be on Tuesday, Jan. 16, and Wednesday, Jan. 17, by appointment, for men and women ages 18 and over. A role is also available for one young boy, ages 8 to 11.

Performances are scheduled on March 16 to18 and 22 to 25, with a sponsor performance on March 14.

In the musical, Edward Bloom has lived an incredible life. Giants, mermaids and witches — every tale he’s told his son is more whimsical than the next, but now his son wants to know the truth. Based on the novel by Daniel Wallace and the Columbia Motion Picture, “Big Fish” is a musical adventure inspired by one father’s incredible stories.

A diverse cast of six men, five women and one young boy is needed for this new, 12-person version of the recent Broadway musical. Roles include Edward, a charming older man and charismatic storyteller; Sandra, Edward’s patient and calm wife; Will, Edward’s adult son whose serious nature conflicts with his father’s; Josephine, Will’s bride-to-be; and an ensemble of characters.

Those auditioning will be asked to prepare a minute of a song of their choice. A piano accompanist will be available, so please bring sheet music if performing a song not from the 12 Chairs version of the play.

Those auditioning will also be asked to read from the script, currently available online. To access the script, please call QCT for the password.

Rehearsals will easily work with most schedules as performers may not be called for every rehearsal or for the full length of rehearsal. A detailed schedule will be determined, based on actor availability.

The play is under the direction of Artistic Director Brandon Thomsen.

All are welcome to audition, regardless of previous experience. Online registration, detailed audition requirements, audition tips and character descriptions are available at www.1qct.org/on-stage/auditions. Audition appointments may also be made by contacting the QCT box office at 217-222-3209.
