Quincy Community Theatre is seeking performers ages 8+ to reinterpret the American classic, OUR TOWN. Auditions are July 24 & 25, by appointment.

Roles are available for men, women, boys, and girls. OUR TOWN’s many iconic roles include the Stage Manager, an omniscient narrator that guides audiences through the story; Emily Webb, the young, bright and self-important woman at the center of the story; George Gibbs, the irresponsible young man at the center of the story; Frank Gibbs, George’s father and the town doctor; Julia Gibbs, George’s mother who longs to go to Paris; Charles Webb, Emily’s father and the editor of the town paper; Myrtle Webb, Emily’s serious mother; Simon Stimson, the organist and town drunk; Mrs. Soames, the town gossip; and a host of other unforgettable townspeople. Children’s roles are Wally Webb, Rebecca Gibbs, Joe Crowell, and Si Crowell.

OUR TOWN tells the story of Grover’s Corners, a town that might sound very much like our own. There, audiences will discover the life, love, and loss we all know so well. Guided by a “stage manager,” OUR TOWN peeks into the lives of two families as they intertwine through twelve years of life changes – from the mundane to the tragic – and discover the extraordinary within the ordinary.

OUR TOWN is under the direction of Artistic Director Brandon Thomsen. Performances are September 14-17 & 22-24.

“The last time I saw OUR TOWN performed was by a high school,” said Thomsen, “and I was struck how every single line was packed with relevance that caused me to reflect on my own life. It’s a powerful script, and I look forward to exploring its themes with a diverse cast that represents the people who make up OUR town.”

Rehearsals will easily work with most schedules as performers may not be called for every rehearsal or for the full length of rehearsal. A detailed schedule will be determined based on actor availability.

Those auditioning will be asked to read from the script, currently available online. To access the script, please call or contact QCT via Facebook for the password. No previous theatre experience is required to participate. All are welcome.

Online registration, detailed audition requirements, audition tips, and character descriptions are available at www.1qct.org/on-stage/auditions. Audition appointments may also be made by contacting the QCT Box Office at 217-222-3209.
