First concert to take place on May 19
Hannibal Y Men’s Club is prepared for a great “Down by the River” concert season, beginning Friday, May 19. Down by the River will be the third Friday of months May, June, July and August. This season includes Cardinal ticket giveaways, raffling off a team for the Annual Y Men’s Golf Tournament as well as other prize giveaways. All four events have musical entertainment, catered by food vendors and have ice-cold beverages from Golden Eagle Distributing.
“Call your friends and come to “Down by the River” for some great music, great food and great drinks,” said committee chairperson, Ralph Fredd.
The Down be the River concert series averages a monthly attendance by more than 600 people.
According to Y Men's Club President Kurt Allen, “All the money that we raise from our events goes to supporting the YMCA of Hannibal in their ever increasing financial demands.”
This year Y Men’s is raising money to upgrade the surveillance system and fix water damage to the parking lot. The current surveillance system was installed in 2006 and only has 16 cameras. The new system has over 30 high definition cameras, including a 360-degree camera. Erosion from water run off is starting to deteriorate the sides of the parking lot. The plan is to fix drainage of the water and repair the hillside.
YMCA of Hannibal’s CEO, Eric Abts thanked the Y Men’s club for continued support.
“The YMCA of Hannibal has been blessed for nearly 40 years to have such a club in our community,” he said. “Recent improvements like construction of our playground, renovation of our weight room, Hoop Fever Games for our Activity Center, and various programming supplies/equipment for our youth programs, to name a few.”
