The Hannibal Arts Council will showcase three exhibits from March 4 through 26. Paper, Pics and Paint features four area artists who create using distinctly different art forms and tools. Simply Red, an open exhibit, includes works from area artists who submitted pieces featuring the color red as the predominant color in the composition. Digital photographs featured on the Photography Channel are black and white images. The exhibits are being sponsored by Michael Gaines, Rita Plowman and the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency.
“We are very excited about the next exhibit,” says HAC Program Coordinator Brenda Beck Fisher. “The featured exhibit, Paper, Pics and Paints, spotlights the works of Linda Buetching, Ezra Collins, Laura Davis and Chen Zhang. Buechting is from Quincy IL and mainly works in watercolor. She is also a romance novelist, with 22 novels to her credit. Collins, whose day job is operating the Hannibal train bridge, captures amazing digital images of the every-changing Mississippi River. Davis, who is a Hannibal native, spends her days working as an Activities Associate with the residents at the Bluffs, a skilled nursing facility in Columbia, where she and the residents are currently working on an art show of their own to be debuted in March. If you have dined at Royal Garden in Hannibal, you may have noticed Zhang’s amazing folded paper sculptures as you enter the restaurant.”
An opening reception for the exhibit will be held from 5-7 p.m. on March 4, with a Gallery Talk at 6 p.m. The public is invited to attend. Honorary hosts for the night are artists involved in Gallery 310, a collaborative gallery in Downtown Hannibal.
Hannibal Arts Council gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Wednesday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. The Hannibal Arts Council is closed Tuesdays and Sundays.
