HLG names Alumni Award 2009 winners

Hannibal-LaGrange College recognized the annual alumni award winners during Homecoming at the alumni brunch on Saturday, Nov. 7.  Dr. William T. Griffin was awarded the Distinguished Alumnus Award, Jo Ann Holcumbrink Raney was given the Outstanding Service Award, and Marisa L. Brown was given the Outstanding Community Service Award.
Dr. William T. Griffin received his associate degree from Hannibal-LaGrange College in 1952. He received his bachelor’s degree in 1955 and his M.D. in 1959, both from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Currently, he serves in several positions, including vice chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the UMC School of Medicine in Columbia, a position he has held since 1975. He also has served in a similar position at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Columbia since 1972. Dr. Griffin is a member of Memorial Baptist Church in Columbia where he serves as deacon.
Jo Ann Holcumbrink Raney is a Frankford native who now resides in rural New London. She received an associate degree from Hannibal-LaGrange College in 1966.  Jo Ann most recently served as HLG’s Director of Alumni Services for 19 years, retiring in 2009. She currently is a member of the 2010 Southern Baptist Convention Committee on Nominations. She and Larry are active members of Immanuel Baptist Church, where she serves as a Sunday School Teacher, choir member, and past interim Music Director.
Marisa L. Brown of Hannibal, Missouri, is a 1997 graduate of Hannibal-LaGrange College. She also received a master’s degree in business communications in 2007 from Jones International University. Marisa currently serves as community relations coordinator for District 3 of the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT). Marisa is a member of the National Association of Government Communicators. Marisa and her children are active members of Holy Family Church in Hannibal.
