Art camps for students pre-school through sixth grade will begin in June at the Quincy Art Center.
Art camps for students pre-school through sixth grade will begin June 16, 1515 Jersey.
Pre-School camps are from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday through Thursday for children ages 3 to 5 who have not attended kindergarten. All pre-school camps include story, snack and activity time each morning and are $50 per session (materials are included).
Session 1 – Monday, June 16 through Thursday, June 19
“Me Myself and I” - Participants will paint a self portrait, design a growth chart and create a clay wall plaque.
Session 2 – Monday, June 23 through Thursday June 26
“When I Grow Up”
Session 3 – Monday, July 7 through Thursday, July 10
“A is for Artist” - In this camp each person will team up with fellow campers to create an alphabet book and create their own hanging letter sculpture and use clay to create word blocks.
Session 4 – Monday, July 14 through Thursday, July 17
“Wet and Wild” - This camp is for kids that enjoy getting wet. Each person will create a sprinkler painting, draw with glue and use recycled materials to create their own wild animal.
Kindergarten through third grade camps are held from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday for students who have completed kindergarten, first, second or third grade. All kindergarten through third grade camps include snack and activity time and are $70 per session (materials are included).
Session 1 – Monday, June 16 through Friday, June 20
“Hot and Haring” - In this camp artists learn about the art of encaustic wax and will use hot wax to create their own painting and mixed media relief sculpture.
Session 2 – Monday, June 23 through Thursday June 27
“Robots Rock and Dinosaur’s Talk” - Each person will create their own rock’n robot using paint and aluminum cans. Each person will become a paleontologist and go on a dinosaur dig, create plaster castings of dinosaur bones and recreate their rock’n robot or favorite dinosaur with paint and oil pastel.
Session 3 – Monday, July 7 through Thursday, July 11
“Birds of a feather stick together.” Each person will use various painting techniques to create their own feathery friend. They’ll collect sticks and other natural materials to make a wild bird planter. They’ll also use clay to create their own garden plaque.
Session 4 – Monday, July 14 through Thursday, July 18
“Planes, Trains and Automobiles” - Each person will use recycled materials to design their own plane, train or automobile. They will take a trip with their mixed media transportation mobile and use paper mache to create a world map.
Fourth through sixth grade camps are from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday for students who have completed fourth, fifth or sixth grade. All fourth through sixth grade camps include snack and activity time and are $70 per session (materials are included).
Session 1 – Monday, June 16 through Friday, June 20
“Crazy for Clay” - Each person will use hand-building and glaze techniques to create bubble creatures and Native American style pots. They will also learn to center, throw and trim simple forms on the potter’s wheel.
Session 2 – Monday, June 23 through Thursday June 27
“Outside the Lines” - In this camp each person is encouraged to think outside the box. They will create a yard sculpture with paint and found objects. They will also stretch their own canvas and use paint sticks and paper to complete a self-portrait.
Session 3 – Monday, July 7 through Thursday, July 11
“Throwing Mud” - Each person will use hand-building and glaze techniques to create tribal mask and wall hanging. They will also learn to center, throw and trim forms on the potter’s wheel.
Session 4 – Monday, July 14 through Thursday, July 18
“Design with Dine” - In this camp each person will learn about American artist Jim Dine. They will experiment with various painting techniques and create your own 2D compositions.
