Edison Learning to oversee South Shelby summer school

Shelbina, MO —

Edison Learning will be overseeing the 2009 summer school for the Shelby County R-IV School District. The board of education approved the summer school program and an agreement with Edison Learning during Thursday night’s school board meeting.
In other business:
• The board reviewed the 2008 Annual Performance Report.
• Long-range planning for the district was discussed.
• Board members read the two essays submitted and chose one to be Shelby County R-IV’s finalist for the John T. Belcher Memorial Scholarship. Each Missouri School Board Association member school board can select one application from a high school senior. The student submitting the essay that was selected will be notified in order that that person may complete the entry process.
• A resolution was adopted supporting the No Child Left Behind Recess Until Reauthorization Act.
• Approval was given ordering metal from Lester Metals.
• Program and data evaluations were reviewed from Shelbina Elementary, Clarence Elementary and the Middle School/High School.
• Board members attending the Missouri School Board’s Association Conference gave summaries of the sessions they attended.
• Approval was given a proposed band trip to Six Flags.
