Construction of a new concession stand will be moving forward at South Shelby following action by the Shelby County R-IV Board of Education during its Thursday meeting.
The board agreed to have Michael Brenz build the shell of a new concession stand. Accepted was a bid from G & C Construction for the concrete work.
In other business:
• John Throckmorton with Employee Screening Services discussed random student drug testing.
• Approval was given the curriculum for summer school classes and summer school budget.
• Tabled until June was a decision concerning dual credit reimbursement to teachers.
• To remain in compliance with Title IX guidelines, the district will offer girls cross country for one year.
• The health insurance renewal bid from the Mo. Educators Health Group was accepted for the fully insured plan provided by Anthem.
• A motion to sell surplus property by an auction this summer was approved. The board accepted auctioneer services from Scott Kunce for 12.5 percent or a minimum of $500, whichever is higher. The district will provide advertising, while the auctioneer provides the clerk and the cashier.
• Permission was granted to bid for printing forms and voluntary coverages such as vision and dental.
• Payment was approved to teachers for completing their 2007-08 Career Ladder plans.
• Permission was granted to sell, donate or discard old library books and textbooks.
• The resignations of Malena Saxbury and Rachel Harrison were accepted.
• The hiring of personnel for summer school was approved.
• Hired as summer custodians were Andrew Williams, Cody Wise and Kensie Snider. James Bork was hired on a full-time basis for the summer.
• The following contract revisions were approved: Cindy Roberts, added middle school Campus Bowl, $308; Holly Lindsey, deleted as middle school assistant softball coach, $877, and added as middle school head softball coach, $1,348, and middle school assistant girls basketball coach, $1,730; Rose Korte, added as middle school assistant softball coach, $877; Teresa McDowell, deleted as middle school head softball coach, $1,348, and added as high school assistant softball coach, $1,286; Erin Gill, added as middle school/high school musical assistant, $774; Connie Schwieter, added JV football cheerleading sponsor, $617; Dwayne Williams, added as girls cross country.
• In other personnel matters: Annie McEwen was hired as part-time process coordinator for the Northeast Missouri Special Education Co-op; Linda Lueckenhoff was hired as a diagnostician for the Northeast Missouri Special Education Co-op; Tim Hercules was hired as the instrumental/vocal music teacher at South Shelby Middle School/High School; Philip O’Neal was hired as a third grade teacher at Shelbina Elementary. All the hirings are for the 2008-09 school year.
