Local businesses receive perfect score on HPD’s latest compliance check

All seven businesses were found to be abiding by the law this week when the Hannibal Police Department conducted its latest round of on site alcohol sale compliance checks at local convenience stores. Those businesses were visited on Tuesday.
Found to be in compliance were: Abel’s Quik Shop, 199 Shinn Lane; Ayerco Convenience Center, 4121 Market; Pick-A-Dilly, 3531 Market; Pick-A-Dilly, 1910 Market; Pick-A-Dilly, 2610 Market; The General Store, 918 Mark Twain Ave.; Thoro Mart, 2000 U.S. 61 (South).
Thus far in 2009 the HPD has conducted a combined total of 56 compliance checks at various businesses in Hannibal. Of that total 48 have been found to be in compliance, raising the percentage of businesses operating in accordance with the law in regard to its alcohol sales to 86 percent.
In late October, the HPD conducted the same sort of check at 10 businesses. At that time eight were found in compliance.
According to HPD Chief Lyndell Davis the periodic checks are part of the department’s ongoing efforts to reduce the availability of alcoholic beverages to minors.
