Following a successful series of concerts last fall at Clemens Field, more concerts are being planned this spring at the historic ballyard. On Thursday, concert events were announced for Saturday, May 15, and Saturday, July 3.
On May 15, the Hannibal Convention and Visitors Bureau (HCVB) along with KICK FM and Y101 Radio will present the “Let’s Get This Party Started” concert, which is a production of CASA DE LOCO Entertainment. Slated to perform is Candy Coburn, who is set to release her second CD this spring. Coburn will be opening for the Marshall Tucker Band, which has been performing for over 30 years, gaining multiple gold and platinum albums.
According to Beau Hicks, executive director of the HCVB, the May concert will have available a limited number of VIP tickets.
“A couple of hundred tickets will be available for people who want to mix and mingle with the Marshall Tucker Band and Candy before and after the show, which I think makes it real interesting,” he said.
Tickets for the May 15 event will go on sale soon at the Cavemen Box Office by calling 221-1010. They also will be available online at www.startickets.com.
On July 3, the HCVB and KICK FM along with CASA DE LOCO Entertainment will present a one-day music festival called “God and Country” featuring music from afternoon until evening concluding with a fireworks spectacular.
“We feel this is only going to enhance National Tom Sawyer Days,” said Hicks. “The Oak Ridge Boys will end that night in plenty of time for folks to head down and check out Tanyard Gardens and the Jaycees’ entertainment.”
Among the featured talent will be Neil McCoy and The Oak Ridge Boys. Although unable to reveal the group’s identity yet, Hicks said one of the country’s top gospel groups will also be performing.
“I think that will appeal to a wide and different audience,” he said.
According to Hicks, a number of local and regional bands will also be performing.
“We’ll have that full lineup coming up here in the next month or so,” said Hicks.
Knowing that the concerts are already planned will enable the HCVB to begin marketing the events.
“If tickets go on sale two weeks ahead of time for the Oak Ridge Boys and Neil McCoy, we could probably sell out locally, but what this is going to allow me to do is when we go to St. Louis to promote summer tourism in Hannibal we can put this music festival right up front and center and we’ll be booking hotel rooms and getting folks traveling in for these tickets,” said Hicks. “My advice to locals will be as soon as tickets go on sale to make sure and get yours because we’re going to be advertising this from St. Louis to Springfield, Ill., to Kansas City.”
More concerts will be announced at a later date.
“We’ll have a concert in June and one in August as well,” said Hicks, adding that the performers will be “major names.” “We’re really excited about it. For tourism all it does is really bring more people and give us something to hang on Hannibal’s hat when we’re out there advertising.”
