The former Gardner Denver and Atchison Castings foundry in LaGrange has been sold.
Carter Newt of Sunflower Enterprises in Dubuque, Iowa, bought the property along North Main Street for $50,000 at a collector’s sale.
Newt did not return a telephone message from the Courier-Post, but has told the city he plans to demolish the remaining structure. Sunflower is a marine contracting and equipment leasing firm.
A trust that oversaw the foundry had not paid taxes on the property since 2006.
Atchison acquired the facility in 1995, but announced in 2002 that it was idling the plant, which had operated for almost 100 years. More than 100 workers lost their jobs.
