Next spring, the Missouri Department of Transportation will resurface almost 14 miles of U.S. 61 in Pike County. Crews will resurface five disconnected sections of north and southbound U.S. 61 between Bowling Green and Eolia. The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission recently awarded the project to Chester Bross Construction Co., Inc. of Hannibal, for $3,562,851.29.
Two southbound sections will be resurfaced from just south of Route HH to WW near Edgewood, and an almost one-mile section just north of Route OO. In the northbound lanes, three sections will be resurfaced at various locations from just south of Route UU near Bowling Green to just north of Eolia near Route OO. The contractor will also be installing edgeline rumble stripes to enhance safety.
Traffic will be handled on the existing pavement during the resurfacing operations, but will be restricted to one lane. Details about the project will be released to local media prior to construction beginning. The public is urged to use caution during construction. The work is expected to be complete in the fall of 2010.
