The Illinois unemployment rate climbed again last month, reaching 11 percent for October.
The number is the highest since August 1983. In October 2008, the rate was only 6.8 percent.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security reported the number of jobs fell by 3,200. That made October the 21st straight month in which the number of jobs has dropped.
The only glimmer of light is that officials said the rate at which people have lost their jobs slowed considerably.
Missouri unemployment figures will be released soon.
