HPD finds eight of 10 local businesses in compliance during latest alcohol sale check

Eighty percent of Hannibal businesses were in compliance earlier this week when Hannibal Police Department officers conducted the latest on-site alcohol sale compliance check.
The check at local convenience and grocery stores took place Wednesday. According to HPD Chief Lyndell Davis the periodic checks are part of the department’s ongoing efforts to reduce the availability of alcoholic beverages to minors.
A total of 10 businesses were visited. The eight found to be in compliance were: Abel’s Quik Shop, 1201 Broadway; Ayerco Convenience Center, 2901 James Road; Pick-A-Dilly, 1329 Mark Twain Ave.; BP Amoco, 624 Mark Twain Ave.; Casey’s, 3827 Highway MM; County Market, 202 Steamboat Bend; Kroger, 200 Huck Finn; and Wal-Mart, 3650 Stardust.
The two businesses not in compliance were: Abel’s, 100 Shinn Lane; and Thoro Mart, 2000 South Highway 61.
Thus far in 2009 the HPD has conducted a total of 49 compliance checks at various businesses in Hannibal and have found 41 in compliance.
