After 26 years serving the Hannibal Police Department, Kathy Davis has launched a sweet new venture as owner of the new Hannibal TCBY-Mrs. Fields store at 210 Steamboat Bend Shopping Center. While transitioning from public servant to private business owner, Davis’ commitment to community service has remained steadfast. Under her leadership, Hannibal’s TCBY-Mrs. Fields is launching “Hannibal Hometown Heroes,” a program to support local education, healthcare and Veteran services.
“I have two degrees from Hannibal-LaGrange University, and a daughter in elementary school, so education and literacy in Hannibal is an important initiative for our family and our store to support,” said Davis. “Given my background as a public servant, support of our nurses and other medical professionals as well as our Veterans made a lot of sense for us also.”
Davis will offer a buy one, get one free promotion called “Teacher Tuesdays,” offered for teachers with a school I.D. every Tuesday during the school year. The store will also continue its sponsorship of Hannibal High School Booster Club and will reward student reading programs and school fundraisers throughout the school year with special offers redeemable for TCBY and Mrs. Fields treats.
To recognize Hannibal’s heroes in healthcare, TCBY-Mrs. Fields will offer a free treat for nurses, hospital volunteers and hospital staff during National Hospital Week and Nurse Appreciation Week (May 6-12, 2018). The store is also exploring partnerships with local hospitals and medical providers to recognize outstanding community service among their staff, volunteers and public service personnel.
In addition, Davis and her store will sponsor in-store fundraisers on Veterans Day (Nov. 11), Armed Forces Day (May 19) and Memorial Day (May 28) to benefit the Honor Flight Program and transportation of Hannibal Veterans to Washington, DC to visit Veterans memorials.
Hannibal’s TCBY-Mrs. Fields store offers counter-service soft serve and hand scooped frozen yogurt and Mrs. Fields treats. Davis opened the store to offer Hannibal residents an option that was not already offered, and because she finds owning the store rewarding, given that it affords the opportunity to employ young students, and serve as a role model in the process.
“I actually like frozen yogurt better than ice cream – it is delicious and has health benefits,” said Davis. She admitted that while soft serve White Chocolate Mouse is TCBY’s most popular flavor, her favorites include hand scooped Chocolate Peanut Butter Yo-Tracks and Strawberries n’ Cream.
