This time a month ago, the Cardinals were fighting for a playoff spot. Even if they magically got in, they weren’t going to do anything in the playoffs.
I mean, come on. Look who they were going to play. Arguably the best team in baseball, the Philadelphia Phillies. The team that made all the right moves during the season and even better right moves during the off-season.
Sunday afternoon was more than just a win for the Denver Broncos, it was hope.
As Tim Tebow came out onto the field for the first time to start this season, the stadium was electric, even though the game was in Miami. Tebow struggled in the first half, throwing for only 24 yards, but rushing for 44.
We are bringing back the athlete of the week feature to our newspaper. In every Thursday edition of the paper, we plan to run a profile of a local athlete. The profile will help to inform citizens of Hannibal about their local athletes.
Sportscenter's Thursday morning broadcast was a wild combination of American League and National League wild card stories. But towards the end of the broadcast, one of the anchors said, "I believe the Phillies will win their division series in 3 games." Why so fast? After the incredible September that the Cardinals had, and the fact that they are peaking at the right time, I would not be so quick to count the Cardinals out. Lets look at the facts, the Cardinals went 23-8 down the stretch to win the wild card.

After beating the Minnesota Vikings 26-23 in overtime, the Detroit Lions have started the season 3-0. They have wins over the Buccaneers, Chiefs, and most recently, the Vikings. Now, 3-0 might not mean much to you, because the season is just getting underway and the Lions haven't exactly played "tough competition" yet. But to Lions fans, it means the world.
I can remember going to Blues games in my early years, almost every Saturday with my dad. We would leave really early and stop at Taco Bell to grab a quick bite to eat, then head to St. Louis. We would arrive at the Kiel Center (Now Scottrade Center) right as the gates opened so that I could run down to the first row of seats to watch the Blues practice, and hope for the opportunity to get a puck.
The St. Louis Cardinals might be done after all. After blowing a 4 run lead in the 9th, they are down 2 games to the Atlanta Braves in the National League Wild Card spot. The Cardinals had been on a roll, winning 13 out of the last 15 games, but last night's loss might have been the end of the road.
The St. Louis Blues are preparing for a huge season. It is obvious that off-season moves and players returning from last seasons injuries are allowing the Blues to reload and focus on the 2011-2012 season. Yaroslav Halak, the Blues all-star goalie is returning from injury.
