Mark Twain Chorale continues tradition, plans its 48th annual Christmas concert

The Mark Twain Chorale, a volunteer-community based vocal group, is announcing the start-up of rehearsal dates for its 48th annual Christmas concert to be held in early December 2008.  Rehearsals will begin at 7 p.m.  Monday, Sept. 8 in the vocal music room, Roland Fine Arts Center on the campus of Hannibal-LaGrange College. Rehearsals are scheduled for every Monday evening through the months of September, October and November.
Members of the community, which includes Hannibal, Palmyra, and Monroe City, who love to sing and would like to be a part of the Mark Twain Chorale are encouraged and welcome to join the current members of the chorale.  This year’s Christmas performance will be the 48th year that the chorale has presented this traditional musical concert.
The chorale got its start in 1961 by presenting its first community Christmas concert on Dec. 17 under the direction of Gilbert E. Froman.  This year, Jane Griffin, assistant professor of music with Hannibal-LaGrange College, will be directing the chorale. She will be assisted by Bonnie Campbell as the chorale’s accompanist.
Exact date, time and location of this year’s concert have not been determined at this time, but plans are being made for an early December concert.
The members of the Mark Twain Chorale invite all interested parties to attend the first rehearsal of the fall season.
