Shipmates together so long ago.
Midst the storm of the sea and of war.
Would you believe it, if I told you so?
Across those wild seas of afar.
We became friends and shared in war’s pain
Gave all we had, to finish our job,
And here we are, together again.
Civilized men, not a mob.
We carried the troops and carried supplies
Sailed through storms on that bumpy old tub
Survived the bombs and enemy fire
Even a couple of fish from their sub.
We beached her where, tne enemy was strong
Took their fire and finished our run.
Enemy planes, came all the night long.
But we stayed till our mission was done.
We suffered the pain, of men who would never return,
From the beach where they faced the enemy force.
When we heard the dead count, how our hearts did burn.
At our loss, we were filled with remorse.
We’re survivors all, of those awful days.
But some of the gang are now gone.
We have endured all these years, in our own ways,
But still we boast of the war that we won.
In face of our losses, we still feel our pride
And often we are heard to boast
Of heroes who went, to war in a tub
And to ourselves, we now raise our toast.
