Hallye Bone, quilt appraiser certified by the American Quilters Society of Paducah, Ky, will be appraising quilts at the Hickory Stick in Hannibal on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 13, 14 and 15.
Pat Waelder, owner of the Hickory Stick, said, “Hallye will also be judging the Mark Twain Fabric Challenge on Saturday, and will do a book signing of her book ‘Caring for Your Quilts - Textile Conservation, Repair and Storage,’ from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, at the Hickory Stick.” The book has just been released and is published by the Kansas City Star Books.
“Whether you have spent time and expense to make a new quilt, or you’ve acquired a vintage textile, you will be surprised at its value!” said Ellen O’Bryan, Bone’s assistant and scribe, and member of the Missouri State Quilt Guild and the Hannibal Piecemakers Quilt Guild. “Appraisals are needed when you enter a quilt show, for insurance purposes, when you give a quilt as a gift, and if you are donating a quilt to a charitable organization. Appraisals are done by appointment only, and Hallye’s previous visits have been fully scheduled at least 10 days prior to her arrival.”
Bone, a St. Louis native, has been quilting since 1967, and teaching quilting since 1980. Her work for the Smithsonian Institution and her quilt repair business initiated her interest in vintage quilts. She has written for Quilter’s World, Quilting Today and Miniature Quilting magazines. Original designs have appeared in Creative Quilting magazine. She is currently a contributing editor for the e-zine: thequiltercommunity.com, a new tool for quilters on the Internet. She travels extensively, lecturing and teaching at quilt shops, quilt shows, guild meetings, and quilting expositions.
