The work of Ann Miller Titus, fiber artist, will be featured during the Second Saturday Gallery Night, from 5 .m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 11, at Alliance Art Gallery, 112 N. Main St.
“Sports and Active Recreation” is the theme of this year’s photo show at the Canton Area Arts Council Gallery, 309 Lewis St. Compiled from the work of photojournalists at the Canton Press-News Journal, the show opens Friday, July 10, with a public reception at 6:30 p.m. The show will continue during weekend hours through July 25 with no admission charge.
“With Canton R-V having had two state top-four appearances this past school year - third place in softball and second place in basketball - the timing seemed right for a sports-related photo show,” said Press-News Journal editor/publisher Dan Steinbeck. But while the show features pictures from Canton’s state game appearances as well as coverage of the Highland teams in three sports, it will also include a look at a variety of minor and quasi sports moments.
The family friendly, Music Under the Stars program continues at 7 p.m. Thursday with “Emerald Underground.” Those attending this free event are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the music in front of Mark Twain’s Boyhood Home.
Pat Waelder, owner of Hickory Stick Quilt & Gift Shop in Hannibal, said she was “shocked and surprised” when she learned her shop had been named one of the top 10 quilt shops in North America. She learned of this honor from Better Homes and Gardens, which told Waelder her shop was chosen from among 3,000 quilt shops.
One of this year’s first National Tom Sawyer Days events was the Little Misses and Mr. Hannibal Pageant on Saturday at the Hannibal Middle School auditorium.
The Mark Twain Home Foundation, the Hannibal Arts Council, Hannibal CASA and the Missouri Department of Social Services Children’s Division would like to present the Hannibal Heart Gallery.

National Tom Sawyer Days (NTSD), an early July fixture in Hannibal for the past 54 years, has not had a fixed location in recent years. That apparently is changing, thanks to the owners of the Hannibal Cavemen. They have agreed to allow the Hannibal Jaycees use of property southwest of the ballpark to stage the annual celebration.
Karmen, Kelli and JR Luv will be performing at the Pike County Senior Center, 220 W. Adams, Pittsfield, Ill., at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, June 27. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. with food available. Admission is by donation, and the public is invited. For information, call (217) 285-6621.
