HANNIBAL | Sandy and Capt. Steve Terry were greeting people boarding their Mark Twain Riverboat on Thursday, May 21, after beginning 2020 cruises May 19.
They had delayed their usual mid-March opening schedule this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. New rules include asking passengers to use social distancing. Passengers may wear masks, but they are not required.
“We have adjusted boarding procedures and cut the number (of passengers),” Steve Terry said. “We are doing everything as safely as possible and giving a nice hour out on the river.”
On Thursday, their passengers included Mallory Christensen and Nichole Binder of Decatur, Ill., who had just finished lunch at the Mark Twain Brewing Co., near the riverboat docking area at the foot of Hill Street.
A group of 21 students from the Classical Academy DeLafayette in O'Fallon, Mo., was joining the individual passengers.
Daily one-hour cruises are scheduled at 1:30 p.m. Steve Terry said, with boarding beginning at 1 p.m.
The first 2020 evening dinner cruise is scheduled for Saturday, May 23. Boarding begins at 6 p.m. with the dinner cruise from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Ticket information and additional details about the schedule of cruises are available by calling the riverboat at 573-221-3222 or online at marktwainriverboat.com.
The boarding area is moved to Hill Street across from the boat club, Steve Terry said. Parking is available on the parking lot at the riverfront on Center Street.
