The CHART Teen Task Force announces its twentieth Teen Health Fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center in downtown Hannibal.

The Health Fair features booths on health and safety for teens, a DJ with music, free prizes for teens and free food for all visitors. Teens can put on glasses simulating the effects of alcohol on simple tasks like walking. Information on dental and mental health issues, abstinence, contraception, sexually transmitted diseases and effects of drugs and alcohol will be presented.

New events this year include a 4H Shooting Sports Safety booth, HyVee healthy eating for teens and yoga pose demonstrations from Twisted Juniper Yoga. University Extension's Smoothie bike will use teen pedal power to run the blender. This free teen event is designed to promote healthy lifestyle choices for teens, and is an opportunity for church youth groups, scout groups, school groups and families with teens to combine fun and learning.

“Teens and their parents can experience a variety of educational booths and demonstrations which can enhance asset development and a healthy lifestyle,” said Sandra Ahlum, M.D., chairperson of the CHART Teen Task Force.

Over 30 booths will provide information for teens, and all teens will be eligible for prizes. The Teen Health Fair is made possible by many generous donations from area merchants and individuals, the Riedel Foundation, Evening Kiwanis and the United Way of the Mark Twain Area. The event is co-sponsored by the CHART Teen Task Force and Hannibal Parks and Recreation.
