  • Performers at the Big River Vaudeville Review Saturday at times were joined by the audience filling the concert hall at Finn’s.
Local vocalists Clark Cruikshank, Jim Dewey, Kirsten Dewey, Katie Wood and Lisa Marks also were joined by Big River Steampunk Festival performers such as magician Dr. Robere DeGraf (Robert Pettey).
Cruikshank, as Ukulele Ike, invited the crowd to join him for “Meet Me In St. Louis.”
DeGraf also played his trumpet as one of three instrumentalists at the show. He was joined by pianist Robert March and drummer Sean Major, both of Hannibal.
DeGraf’s wife, Capt. Jayne Starling (Trudi Storr) explained that he has been a professional musician for more than 40 years and a magician for 20 of them.
The couple drove 1,400 miles from Naples, Fla., to appear in the Big River Steampunk Festival. During the vaudeville show, Lisa Marks of the sponsoring Hannibal History Museum (appearing as singer Sophie Tucker) told the audience the magician had practically volunteered his services, accepting only gas money for the trip from Florida.
Marks offered some Hannibal history along with the music, noting they were presenting songs written by Hannibal native Cliff Edwards, who gained fame as the voice of Jiminy Cricket. Among Edwards’ compositions is “Singing in the Rain.” Cruikshank sang some of Edwards’ songs.
During the vaudeville show, Kirsten Dewey made a grand entrance down the aisle as Queen Victoria, then joined the performers on stage to sing with them.
After doing a comedy routine, Queen Victoria joined Katrina Featherbottom (Wood) to sing “Sisters.”
The show also featured comedy acts by a couple of Pirates, and a magic act by Dr. DeGraf.
