William E. “Bill” Tucker, 83, of Hannibal, Missouri, passed away at 1:48 a.m. Friday, August 29, 2014, at Beth Haven Nursing Home in Hannibal.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hannibal. Rev. Michael Stoerger will officiate.   Burial with full Military Honors by Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post # 55 will be at Grand View Burial Park.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the James O’Donnell Funeral Home.
Mr. Tucker was born January 1, 1931, in Ralls County, MO to James Franklin and Jessie Mae Smith Tucker.
He was married to Marilyn Jean Frankenbach on August 22, 1954, in West Ely, MO. She survives.
Other survivors include 3 sons, Dr. Mark A. Tucker (Ruth) of Center, MO, Bradley W. Tucker of St. Louis, MO, and William “Breck” Tucker (Jennifer) of Jefferson City, MO; 1 sister, Betty Stolberg of Hannibal, MO; 1 brother, Dr. Benny Tucker of Jackson, TN;  Grandchildren, James Tucker (Bobbi Jo) of Hannibal, MO, Andrew Tucker of Columbia, MO, Megan Kretz (Joe) of Christopher, IL, Catherine Tucker of Chicago, IL, and Grace Griffin of Jefferson City, MO; and four great grandchildren, Azariah, Alice and William Tucker and Mila Kretz.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Robert Tucker and James Tucker.
Bill graduated from Hannibal High School, Hannibal LaGrange College and Kirksville State Teachers College.  He received his Master’s degree from the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO. Mr. Tucker taught school at Clopton High School and then returned to Hannibal High School where he taught 29 years as a Biology teacher and coached several sports and was athletic director. He retired as a guidance counselor. Mr. Tucker was also an instructor of Biology and Education for many years at Hannibal LaGrange University. He was a past president of the Community Teacher’s Association.
Mr. Tucker was in the National Guard for 35 years attaining the rank of Colonel.  He was commander of the 2175th Military Police Company in Hannibal.  Mr. Tucker was promoted to Battalion Commander in Fulton, MO and then was promoted to Headquarters in Kansas City, MO.  He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and served on several boards including vice president of the board of Directors. Bill loved golfing with his wife and playing cards with friends and family.  Each summer he raised a beautiful garden and enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing with his brother in law,  Bob, quail hunting and bird watching.  He was known to help people with home remodeling and repairs. Bill and Marilyn traveled during retirement throughout the United States and Europe. Bill was a Christian man who adored his wife and loved his children and grandchildren, was a mentor to his students and guardsmen and a devoted friend to many.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church in care of the James O’Donnell Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be James Tucker, Andrew Tucker, Jeff Holliday, Larry Garner, Randy Frankenbach, and Gene Lambert.
