  • Jack Eldon Wasson Jr. and Geneva Ann Wasson of Hannibal, Mo., celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on July 13, 2014.
Jack Wasson Jr. and Geneva St. Clair were married July 13, 1974, at the Nelsonville Baptist Church, Nelsonville, Mo., by the Rev. Tully Achord.
The bride’s attendants were her sisters, and the groom had friends and the bride’s brother as his groomsmen.
The Wassons are parents of Lindsey Troutman (Clint) of Columbia, Mo., and Wendy Conrad (Michael) of Hannibal, Mo.
Jack graduated from Linn Technical School and has worked at Gardner-Denver in Quincy, Ill., for 41 years. Jack is also a graduate of Hannibal-LaGrange College.
Geneva graduated from Hannibal-LaGrange College and has worked at Watlow Industries in Hannibal for the last 26 years.
The couple and their daughters and husbands flew to California in July for a weeklong trip. They spent the weekend in South Lake Tahoe, where Jack and Geneva enjoyed watching the annual Celebrity Golf Tournament.
On Sunday afternoon, the couple surprised his mother, Mary Margaret McNeal of Rancho Cordova, Calif., with the renewal of their wedding vows. When the couple got married in 1974, Jack’s family was unable to make the trip back to Missouri for the wedding, so this was a special moment for his mother and the rest of his family. Jack also surprised Geneva during the renewal ceremony with a new wedding ring that was placed on the ring pillow that was used in their wedding in 1974. Making the day even more special was the couple’s daughters and their husbands accompanying them as attendants.
After the ceremony, family and friends gathered for a barbecue at his mother’s residence. The original cake topper that was used on their wedding cake in 1974 was also brought along for the trip and was placed on the cake at the renewal celebration.
The remainder of the trip was spent visiting with family as well as the kids enjoying a day trip to San Francisco.
