  • The process of resurfacing the Porter Stadium track at Hannibal High School wrapped up Tuesday and the finished product had district officials smiling.
A school district Tweet this morning stated the track looked “great.”
Rich Stilley, business manager for the Hannibal public school district, was also more than satisfied.
“The color just pops,” said Stilley Tuesday afternoon. “It looks terrific.”
The final painting of numbers and lines on the track was taking place Tuesday.
“Watching them was like watching artisans at work,” said Stilley of workers with Fisher Tracks.
It had been expected the project, which began in late July, would be completed sooner.
“There were some weather delays,” said Stilley, noting that rain interrupted work more than once, including the striping process Monday.
The track has been closed to local walkers/runners since the work began. According to Stilley, the track will reopen to the public “some time” today (Wednesday.)
“We hope the fans, students, patrons and community are as pleased as we are,” said Stilley.
It is estimated that it has been almost two decades since any significant work on the track last took place.
The cost to resurface the track was around $73,000, according to Stilley, noting the district included the project on its capital projects list. Fisher Tracks was the only company to bid on the project.
The stadium's field turf, which was installed six years ago, is reportedly still in good shape.
