  • Georgia Ann Sims, RN, 53, of Columbia, Mo., left us on July 29, 2014, at her home.
Born May 1, 1961, in Rock Island Ill., she is survived by her daughter, Jessica Michaeline Sims of New Orleans La.
Georgia was blessed with many loving parents, George and Opal Sims (both deceased) of Hannibal Mo., who raised her; stepmothers, Dorothy Sims (deceased) and Carlene Lamberson of Hannibal; and her biological parents, Nelson and Sylvia Sims of Hesperia, Calif.
She leaves behind biological siblings, Gregory Sims of San Diego Calif., Matthew Sims of Coolidge Ariz., and Rosemarie Wilcutt of Hesperia Calif.; and family members in several states. Her closest friends, Denise Agre-Gill of Fulton Mo., and Julie Burge, DVM, of Grandview Mo., many more dear friends too numerous to list, and her five beloved little dogs will all miss her forever.
Georgia attended Bowling Green, Mo., High School, the University of Missouri in Columbia, Hannibal School of Practical Nursing (where she was salutatorian of her class), and Excelsior College of Nursing. She was a Registered Nurse with over 20 years’ experience at the University of Missouri Columbia Medical Center in several different capacities. Her friends from school and work always respected her intelligence and experience, and enjoyed her irreverent humor.
Georgia was a strong woman who battled numerous health challenges and was a cancer survivor of almost 10 years. She excelled at grooming and showing her champion poodles. She was a talented writer, and wrote a humorous little book on how to properly primp poodles that she had hoped to get published. Georgia was a beautiful girl and competed in several beauty pageants in her teens. Her other interests included scary movies, vampires and werewolves, romance novels, horses and cross stitching. She was a hopeless romantic who never managed to find that one great love she so desired.
A memorial service to celebrate Georgia's life will take place at a time and location to be determined.
