Dorothy E. Charlton, 78, of Hannibal, Mo., passed away, at 7:25 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at her home. 

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2014, at the Hannibal Freewill Baptist Church in Hannibal. Pastor Rick Chapman will officiate. Burial will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal, Mo. 

Visitation will be Sunday, July 13, 2014, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Hannibal Freewill Baptist Church in Hannibal, Mo.

The James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Charlton was born April 4, 1936, in Hannibal, Mo., to John Herman and Dorothy Vashti Cross Oltman.

She was married to John Robert Charlton on Nov. 30, 1957, in Hannibal, Mo. He preceded her in death July 8, 2004.

Survivors include four children, Roger L. Winningham, Lana R. Mullis, Steven L. Charlton (Kelly), and Laura S. Wright (Richard); one sister, Janet Oltman Hoyt (Mike);16 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Dennis R. Winningham and John Allen Charlton; grandparents, James T. Cross and Dexter M. Cross; one grandson, Jesse James Mullis; one great-grandson, Tyson Allen Thompson; one niece, Lisa Dawn Wieman; and her son-in-law, Ralph Mullis.

Mrs. Charlton was a retired licensed practical nurse. She previously worked at Hannibal Regional Hospital and also in home healthcare.  Dorothy loved music and crossword puzzles. She enjoyed reading her Bible and visiting and spending time with her neighbors. Dorothy was a NASCAR fan and liked watching Jimmy Johnson race. She also liked watching St. Louis Cardinal baseball. Dorothy was very involved in her church and with her family. She was a member of Hannibal Freewill Baptist Church.    

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hannibal Freewill Baptist Church, in care of the James O'Donnell Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Ronnie Charlton, Dexter Winningham, Gregg Koelliker, Rick Chapman, Charles "Bubby" Charlton and Mike Hoyt.

Honorary pallbearers will be Steven Charlton, Roger Winningham, Sean Wright, Kristopher Wright, Ralph Brandon Mullis, and all of Mrs. Charlton's grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
