  • Dorothy Marie Epperson Allensworth, 97, of Hannibal, Mo., passed away at 10:06 a.m. Sunday, July 6, 2014, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.

  • Dorothy Marie Epperson Allensworth, 97, of Hannibal, Mo., passed away at 10:06 a.m. Sunday, July 6, 2014, at Hannibal Regional Hospital. 
    Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. July 11, 2014, at the Smith Funeral Home and Chapel, in Hannibal. Pastor David Scott will officiate. Burial will be at the Grand View Burial Park.
    Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of the service Friday at the Smith Funeral Home and Chapel.
    Dorothy was born on May 28, 1917, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Hannibal, Mo., the daughter of Mary Etna and Charles (Quinlin) Epperson.
    She married Clifford Harold Allensworth Sr. in 1937. He preceded her in death on April 18, 1995.
    Survivors include two daughters, Scharon Pettitt of Hannibal, Mo., and Wanda Pauley (Jerry) of Hobe Sound, Fla.; one brother, Bob Epperson (Marge) of Payson, Ill.; two sisters-in-laws, Alberta Epperson of Chino Valley, Ariz., and George Ann Epperson of Quincy, Ill.; six grandsons, Tom Pettitt of Quincy, Ill., Jeff Pettitt of Palmyra, Mo., Mike Pettitt (Michelle), Pat Pettitt (Lisa), Larry Pettitt (Rose) all of Hannibal, Mo., and David Pauley of Marietta, Ga.; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
    In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Allensworth was preceded in death by one son, Clifford Harold Allensworth Jr.; son-in-law, Donald Pettitt; five brothers and two sisters.
    Dorothy worked as a Commercial Artist for Western Publishing in Hannibal for several years. She was active in the Lighthouse Chapter 194, O.E.S., where she served as past Worthy Matron of the chapter. Dorothy and Clifford were avid square dancers with several groups during their retirement in Harlingen, Texas. Dorothy was multi-talented, an artist, seamstress, and loved cooking. She and Clifford loved traveling and visited all 50 states, plus international travel. Dorothy was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hannibal.
    Pallbearers will be Jeff Pettitt, Mike Pettitt, Pat Pettitt, Larry Pettitt and David Pauley.
    Honorary pallbearers will be Collin Pettitt, Christopher Pettitt and Terry Pettitt.
    Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital, in care of Smith Funeral Home and Chapel.
