  • Thirteen Hannibal boys competed in the local fence painting contest on Friday, July 4. The winner, Kadin Hudelson, earned the privilege of competing in the National Fence Painting Championship today, July 5.
The national event will begin at 4 p.m. on North Main Street, where three contests took place on Friday.
The local event had four heats, and winners of the four competed for the local championship.
Hunter Parker took second place, and Tristen Terrill finished in third place.
Blayde Terrill, Tristen’s cousin, was the fourth finalist.
Tristen explained Blayde is not only his cousin, “he is one of my best friends.”
Blayde, who was competing for the first time, had put together an elaborate fence painting outfit, which was part of the judging. He decided his one-eyed cat was the most memorable part of his ensemble. He also had a snake, a frog, a rat and rabbits’ feet.
Another contestant with many items to be judged was Andrew Catalpa, who arrived with a chest of “treasures.”
Additional contestants in the local fence painting were Colton Broughton, David Hjelm, Elijah Dexheimer, Ethan Beriozo, Will Dexheimer, Ike Wiley, Cody Glascock and Elijah Hull.
