  • The contests were judged separately, but cousins Lanie Privett and Konnor Asbury took home prizes for the Best Tom and Best Becky at the Pet Show Thursday, July 3, in Hannibal’s Central Park.
Lanie’s “Tom” was actually Maggie, a female chocolate lab.
This was the 42nd annual pet show sponsored by the F&M Bank and Trust Co.
Dogs dominated the show, with a few cats carried on stage by their owners. Heidi Koch’s cat was named Best Cat.
A cat also won the Best Trick contest. This was Grace Gillaspy’s Luke, which hugged her.
The best dog was won by Jessica Friedersdorf’s large white Great Pyrenees.
Kori Stewart’s tiny 5-week-old dog, Jake, won Best Dressed.
Some dogs were larger than their owners, such as 6-months-old Rocky, a German shepherd owned by 3-year-old Taylor Shanke.
Christian Shobe’s pet was named Most Unusual.
A wide variety of critters were entered in this category, from Ashlee Shulse’s ferrets to “bookworms” brought inside a book by Kenedi Neff.
Angel, a pig carried by Samantha Mellon, squealed loudly when posing before the judges.
Avery Schuenke brought her hen, and Annie Albright brought her goat, Sophia.
Clyde Dunker carried his large frog, which he planned to keep until after the frog jump on Saturday.
In the Best Dressed category the largest entry was Ella Riley’s dog being pulled in a patriotically-decorated wagon. She explained her mother got the idea from Pinterest.
