  • Mr. Robert C. “Bob” Carroll, age 85 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away after a very brief illness Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at Capital Region Medical Center, surrounded by his children.
Bob was born on December 10, 1928, in Louisiana, Mo., the son of Russell Clark and Madge Ferguson Carroll.
Bob grew up in Clarksville, Mo., and was a 1946 graduate of Clarksville High School. He attended Central Methodist College for two years and was a proud graduate in 1950 from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Journalism.
Bob served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. It was during this time, while he was stationed in El Paso, Texas, that he was introduced on a blind date to Carolyn F. Blagg, who hailed from Kansas City, Mo. They married two months later on March 8, 1952. That loving marriage would last 59 years. photo, flag
After his service in the Army, Bob began his professional career as sports editor for the Plainview Herald in Texas.
He continued his career in the newspaper industry by becoming editor of the Hannibal Courier-Post from 1958 until 1966. In 1966, he took a leap of faith and moved his wife and four children to Jefferson City to become the president of Missouri Good Roads Association. He later became executive assistant at the Missouri State Medical Association.
In 1972, he started his 22-year career as president of the Missouri Savings and Loan League. He retired on June 30, 1994, and during his retirement he enjoyed traveling with his wife on many trips.
He was a past president of the Hannibal Chamber of Commerce while serving as editor of the Hannibal paper. In Jefferson City he was a member of First Christian Church and Rotary.

Bob was an avid Missouri Tigers sports fan. He was a founding member, along with several of his closest friends, of Yesterday’s Children Club, a group that enjoyed tailgating at all Tiger football games. Above all he cherished time with his family and friends.
