  • A young driver was issued multiple citations by Hannibal police early Sunday morning following a downtown traffic mishap that saw three persons and a parked vehicle struck.
The incident happened shortly before 12:30 a.m. Sunday in a parking lot in the 100 block of North Main Street. Police, fire and Marion County Ambulance personnel were called to that location on the report of a vehicle-versus-pedestrian mishap.
According to Lt. John Zerbonia of the Hannibal Police Department, a female juvenile driver reportedly backed a vehicle in a “reckless manner” resulting in three juvenile subjects and a parked vehicle being struck.
Someone with knowledge of the mishap added the juvenile driver was backing out of a parking space while the vehicle’s doors were still open and it knocked a couple of people to the ground.
The young driver then left the accident site.
John Nemes, EMS chief with the Marion County Ambulance District, reported that one person was transported by ambulance to Hannibal Regional Hannibal for treatment of minor injuries. Two other subjects refused to be transported to the hospital.
Police later located the driver of the vehicle involved in the accident. The individual was issued citations for leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, no proof of insurance and trespassing.
Zerbonia says the juvenile was eventually released to a parent per the Juvenile Justice Center.
According to the Hannibal police’s daily blotter, six other people received verbal warnings, the majority for trespassing.
