The project

A parish center is being built at 218 S. Maple Ave. in Hannibal. The two-level structure will feature 5,400 square feet.

The parish offices will be housed in the new building. In addition there will be ample space for meetings and funeral luncheons.

There will be a kitchenette, restrooms and storage space for parish records on the lower level. The upper level will have a banquet room with seating for 100 people, a full kitchen and restrooms.

What’s
happening

In the past week straw has been scattered over areas that previously had been bare dirt at the site. This is particularly noticeable on the west (upper level) side of the structure.

A few workers were at the structure performing touch-up tasks Thursday morning.

What’s next

Touch-up work continues on the inside of the building, although a plant was noted sitting in an office window on the lower level.

Anticipated cost

The projected cost of the construction project is $1,047,000.

Who’s paying

The money necessary to pay for the center has already been pledged by church members. The pledges were made over the past year during the “Living our Faith, Building our Vision” fund-raising campaign.

Projected date for completion

It was hoped that the new parish center would be ready for use by early 2014.

The anticipated move into the building is now on hold.

According to Janice Rupp of Holy Family Church, a moving date will not be set until the contractor says it has completed its work and the building is ready to be occupied.
