The Hannibal girls’ soccer team has been dominant at home this season and Thursday was no different as the Lady Pirates blasted North Central Missouri Conference foe Fulton 10-0.
“It was an overall really nice game, from the girls,” Hannibal coach Eric Hill said.
Of Hannibal’s three home games this season, the Lady Pirates have not allowed an opponent to score. During those three games, the Lady Pirates have spent 203 minutes on the grass at Veterans Field Sports Complex and have had their way with the opposition. Hannibal’s last two home games have both been 10-0 shutouts.
Unlike Hannibal’s last home game where the Lady Pirates didn’t get their 10th goal until the 77th minute, the game-ending goal came early in the second half this time. With an 8-0 lead at the break, Hannibal scored two quick goals in the second half to seal the victory.
The game ending goal was put in the back of the Fulton net by Raylynn Charlton six minutes into the second half. It was Charlton’s second goal of the night.
While Charlton’s goal ended the game, Kendal Welch was credited with the game-winning goal as she was the first Lady Pirate to find the back of the Fulton net.
Hannibal actually had four different girls score multiple goals. Bri Johnson, Bailey Welch, and Lauren Wheelan also finished with two goals each. Johnson, Wheelan, and Charlton also recorded an assist for the Lady Pirates.
“We had four girls with two goals,” Hill said. “That was nice. We kind of spread the scoring around, but to have four girls get multiple goals is always a nice thing to have.”
Other goal scorers included Kendal Welch and Calen Bailey, both of whom had one goal each. Jennifer Fohey and Gabby Ewert each recorded an assist in the win.
Goalkeeper Kaitlyn Edge was credited with her fourth shutout of the season and the 32.5 of her career.
With the win, Hannibal improves to 6-1 on the season and 5-0 against NCMC opponents. The Lady Pirates will begin the second half of NCMC play this Saturday when they travel to Marshall to face the Lady Owls. Game time is set for 11 a.m.
In junior varsity action, the JV Lady Pirates remained undefeated. The Hannibal JV squad shut out Fulton 4-0.
Because Fulton was short on numbers, the junior varsity game was shorted to two 20 minutes halves.
Lucy Roisum, Fohey, Emily Albright and Summer Golian all had goals in the win while Ewert and Aundria Sheard each had assists.
Samantha Zielinski got  the win and the shutout for the JV Lady Pirates.
The JV Lady Pirates are now 5-0-1 on the season. All five wins have come against NCMC opponents while the tie came against Quincy Notre Dame.
