  • Fire departments from several Hannibal area cities were called to outdoor fires on Friday afternoon, April 11.
At 4:15 p.m. a brush fire was reported to be burning one half to one acre at a location in rural Ralls County near New London, and it was reported by the resident to be 150 yards from the home.
This was on Park View Trail, according to Brian Reed of the New London Volunteer Fire Department. He reported it burned about three acres.
The New London Fire Department called for assistance from the Hannibal Rural Fire Protection District and two other departments, Reed said. They used both fire trucks and a brush truck. At 5 p.m. this fire was reported to be 90 percent out. No buildings were damaged, Reed said.
At 6:10 p.m. Friday, a natural cover fire was reported at the South Spillway at Cannon Dam and Mark Twain Lake.
A later report indicated firefighters hoped to reach this fire by driving off Route EE.
Firefighters from Perry, Center and Frankford were also helping at the fires on Friday.
