  • The 13 former members of Brownie Scout Troop 10 of Hannibal, Mo., who gathered Sunday, April 6, to open their 2004 time capsule were excited to see the condition of the things they had sealed in it.
When it was dug up in the front yard of their former Scout leader, Debbie Allen, they learned that nearly all its contents were too waterlogged to identify.
Some things were identifiable, such as some Scout badges and a pen, while many pictures and other things were ruined. They had included a scrapbook, along with crafts and Christmas ornaments.
This may have been disappointing to the group, but they were happy to get together again, and to visit their former leader.
Allen also was pleased to see the girls again, reporting she was disappointed with the condition of the time capsule “but still excited to see these girls, because I had lost track of them.”
Inside her house, Allen showed them a display of souvenirs from their Scouting experiences.
It included the same type of things they had sealed in their time capsule on May 6, 2004.
The troop had 28 members 10 years ago, and Allen had contacted many of them through Facebook and other social media.
The girls explained their troop continued until they were in eighth grade, then disbanded. Gabbie Wiley said this was because, “we all got busy with our lives.”
Amelia Rosenkrans, Allen’s daughter, believes having her mom serve as troop leader kept her close to her mom and “closer to my friends.”
Jackie Harr’s mother, Tammy Harr, was their last troop leader.
The group present Sunday also included Elisabeth Montgomery, Olivia Mack, Heather Carter, Caty Bier, Kyairra McFall, Kenna Griffie, Cathleen Thorpe, Chantyra Wilson, Savannah Gober and Brandi Beckett.
Several are Hannibal High School seniors and shared their career goals.
Chantyra plans to study psychology and play volleyball at St. Louis Community College.
Kyairra’s goal is to become a traveling nurse.
Cathleen will attend a three-year dental hygienist school in Sedalia, then the University of Missouri-Kansas City to become a dentist.
Elisabeth will attend the Institute of Art to prepare for a career in the fashion industry.
Jackie will attend college and serve in the Missouri National Guard.
Gabbie is planning to play volleyball next year at the University of Louisville.
