The Hannibal girls’ soccer team is not getting the shutouts it had last year, but the wins are still coming. The Lady Pirates latest victim was Boonville as Hannibal pulled out a 3-2 win on the road Monday night.
“We didn’t play our most solid game of the year, especially the last 30 minutes of the first half where we played more on our heels,” Hannibal coach Eric Hill said. “But, it was nice to come away with another conference win on the road. Boonville is a much improved team from last year.”
Hannibal never trailed in its game against Boonville. The Lady Pirates took a quick lead, scoring just four minutes into the game when Raylynn Charlton put a pass from Bri Johnson into the back of the Boonville net. Hannibal then doubled its lead to 2-0 when Jordan Lee found the back of the net off of a Makenzie Morris corner kick.
Boonville ended Hannibal’s shutout bid when the home team was able to get a shot past Kaitlyn Edge in the 19th minute.
The score remained the same for the rest of the first half.
Boonville tied the game at 2-2 when Brittany Perry scored an unassisted goal in the 49th minute.
The game didn’t remain tied for long though as Johnson scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal in the 54th minute.
In the net, Edge finished the night with three saves.
In junior varsity action, Hannibal won 3-1. Lucy Roisum scored a pair of goals while Cara Cook also found the back of the net.
The Lady Pirates are now 4-0 on the season and 3-0 in North Central Missouri Conference play. Hannibal will return to Veterans Field Sports Complex on Thursday to host Moberly.
