  • The project
A parish center is being built at 218 S. Maple Ave. in Hannibal. The two-level structure will feature 5,400 square feet.
The parish offices will be housed in the new building. In addition there will be ample space for meetings and funeral luncheons.
There will be a kitchenette, restrooms and storage space for parish records on the lower level. The upper level will have a banquet room with seating for 100 people, a full kitchen and restrooms.

    What’s
    happening
Work both inside and out was underway Thursday.
“Outside, they were working on the upper-level curb and gutter. They were pouring the sidewalk on the south side,” said Janice Rupp of Holy Family Church. “They poured the parking lot last week. We should be able to drive on it the first part of next week.
“Inside, they were putting a counter top in downstairs.”
On the building’s lower level on the east side, lights were being installed Thursday morning.

    What’s next
“There’s still a little trim to do on the lower level conference room and a couple of counter tops left to install downstairs,” said Rupp. “Upstairs there are some restroom fixtures to put in. They’ll be putting the finish on the floor upstairs next week.
“They’ll finish the installation of the HVAC and do a building-wide test of it in the next couple of weeks.”

    Anticipated cost
The projected cost of the construction project is $1,047,000.

    Who’s paying
The money necessary to pay for the center has already been pledged by church members. The pledges were made over the past year during the “Living our Faith, Building our Vision” fund-raising campaign.

    Projected date for completion
It was hoped that the new parish center would be ready for use by early 2014.
It’s been estimated the building might be ready for occupancy before the end of March.
