  • The project
A parish center is being built at 218 S. Maple Ave. in Hannibal. The two-level structure will feature 5,400 square feet.
The parish offices will be housed in the new building. In addition there will be ample space for meetings and funeral luncheons.
There will be a kitchenette, restrooms and storage space for parish records on the lower level. The upper level will have a banquet room with seating for 100 people, a full kitchen and restrooms.

    What’s
    happening
Work both inside and out was underway Thursday.
“They’re going gangbusters, “ said Janice Rupp of Holy Family Church. “Inside, they’re working on the flooring. They’re installing carpet tiles in the offices and conference room. They’re trying to finish downstairs so we can move in.
“Outside they’re pouring the rest of the curb and gutter around the parking lot.”
On the building’s upper level, painting was taking place Thursday morning.
On the north side of the building, some soffit installation was taking place. Also Thursday, workers could be seen unloading a hot water heater.

    What’s next
Someone familiar with the project indicated that the pouring of concrete on the lower parking lot might begin as soon as next week.
“We’re wanting several days of warm, dry weather so they can begin pouring the parking lot,” said Rupp.

    Anticipated cost
The projected cost of the construction project is $1,047,000.

    Who’s paying
The money necessary to pay for the center has already been pledged by church members. The pledges were made over the past year during the “Living our Faith, Building our Vision” fund-raising campaign.

    Projected date for completion
It was hoped that the new parish center would be ready for use by early 2014.
It’s been estimated the building might be ready for occupancy before the end of March.
