Glenn Maddox, Jr., age 89, of the Illinois Veteran's Home, formerly of Washington, Ill., died on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 in the home.
Glenn Maddox, Jr., age 89, of the Illinois Veteran's Home, formerly of Washington, Ill., died on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, in the home. He was born on June 20, 1924 in Hannibal, Mo., a son of Glenn & Audrey Alcenia (Toalson) Maddox. He married Chris Cantwell in East Peoria, Ill. She preceded him in death.
Mr. Maddox graduated from Hannibal High School and attended the Missouri School of Mines in Rolla, Mo. He served in the U.S. Army Horse Calvary during WWII and the Korean War. He was of the Lutheran faith.
He was employed by Caterpillar as a copy writer from 1948 until his retirement in 1983.
His hobbies included flying, motorcycling and traveling, particularly in his motor home. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol of Central, Ill., serving as commander for about a decade.
Survivors include three children, Marva Hopwood and her husband Joe of Hannibal, Mo., Glenn Alan Maddox and his wife Pat of Bloomington, Minn., and Denise Jarreau and her husband Barry of Baton Rouge, La.; seven grandchildren, Ben (Amanda) Mook, James (Brigid) Mook, Joel (Jennifer) Hopwood, Mitchell Maddox, Phillip (Kelsey) Maddox, Jennifer Roland and Katie Jarreau; three great-grandchildren, Annabelle Mook, Luella Mook and Oliver Maddox; and one sister, Beverly Rice
In addition to his wife, Chris, he was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 3, 2014, at 9a.m. in the All Faiths Chapel at the Illinois Veteran's Home. Interment will be in Sunset Cemetery with military honors conducted at the graveside. Visitation will take place on Monday morning beginning at 8:30 a.m. until the time of services at the chapel.
