  • The project
A parish center is being built at 218 S. Maple Ave. in Hannibal. The two-level structure will feature 5,400 square feet.
The parish offices will be housed in the new building. In addition there will be ample space for meetings and funeral luncheons.
There will be a kitchenette, restrooms and storage space for parish records on the lower level. The upper level will have a banquet room with seating for 100 people, a full kitchen and restrooms.

    What’s
    happening
With winter maintaining its frigid grip on Northeast Missouri, work that can be accomplished outside at the site is limited.
Inside the parish center the concrete floor on the lower level was being scraped and vacuumed Thursday morning.
Also Thursday, the installation of shelves was underway in one of the lower-level rooms.
Janice Rupp of Holy Family Church reported that work continues on the HVAC system.

    What’s next
In the near future the installation of flooring will begin on the lower level of the building after the prep work is completed.
According to Rupp, once the drainage system is finished the lower parking lot will be poured, providing conditions are dry enough.

    Anticipated cost
The projected cost of the construction project is $1,047,000.

    Who’s paying
The money necessary to pay for the center has already been pledged by church members. The pledges were made over the past year during the “Living our Faith, Building our Vision” fund-raising campaign.

    Projected date for completion
It was hoped that the new parish center would be ready for use by early 2014.
On Thursday morning a person familiar with the project, who spoke on the condition they not be identified, indicated the interior of the building might be ready in three weeks.
“They’ve still got to get the lower parking lot done and with this crazy weather ...,” said Rupp, who confirmed an interior completion by the third week of March is estimated.
